Aviasvit XXI 27 Sept - 1 Oct

Post by mart »

As seen in the airshow schedule of scramble and on their own website, this year there will be an other edition of Aviasvit in the Ukraine at the Antonov aerodome in Kiev, so Gostomel airport.
The event has always seemed to have been a good occasion to see some otherwise rarely seen airframes such as AN-22, AN-70 and AN-225 which is also the main reason I am seriously considering making the trip.

Their website (http://aviasvit.com.ua/en) seems to raise more questions than it answers, so I was wondering if there is anyone here who can tell me more about the event, what can I expect, is it hard to get there when in Ukraine?
I would fly WIZZAIR to Kiev Zhulyany airport, which has a museum that looks great on google maps, but is that museum open generally? (I seem te recall that there was some kind of issue with the museum.)

Looking forward to your replies.

I went to Aviasvit 2 years ago, but on an organized trip. Loads of people on Saturday and Sunday, most of which got there by public transport. The problem is finding out where in Kiev any coaches would leave from to the airport. I suggest you just check the website in August or September or otherwise send them an email. An-225 wasn't there, as it had been chartered on a commercial trip. An-70 wasn't there either, but the ADB An-22 as well as An-12 and An-26 were there. Don't count on many airframes though and be there early in order to make some decent pictures.

The museum at Zhuliany is great if you are into Russian / Ukranian types. Most can be reasonably photographed too. In itself this is a good reason to go to Kiev. Plenty of stored An-24/26s and Yak-40s at Zhuliany too, though photography may be difficult (you could get the odd picture if you will actually arrive / depart there).

Happy hunting
