Spottersday and Open day Wittmund 28/29 June 2013

Post by frank kramer »

According to a German military press release (below), the end of the F-4F at Wittmund is planned for June 30, 2013. The final 14 Rhino's will then be flown to Jever. But before that, a final Open Day is planned -for now!- on June 29, 2013!

WITTMUND
KDH

Thanks to Kleine Brogel colleague Edwin for pointing this out!

Spottersday and Open day Wittmund 28/29 June 2013

Post by gortje »

Hi everybody,

I've contacted sombody that has spoken with the commander of Wittmund.
This commander has told the follow information about the Spottersday and Open Day at the 28th & 29th of June 2013.

This is going to be the first event with a flying display of Luftwaffe aircrafts. Normal flying but it's a new beginning after the Ramstein desaster in 1988.
The commander wants to have 4 special painted Phantoms. Three F-4 Phantom will get the camouflage shemes that the Luftwaffe had in Phantom history.
One F-4 Phantom is going to be a coloured on.
An unlimited spotterday will be held on friday the 28th of June.
The commander was speaking of an historic event because it´s going to be the very last time for phantoms to fly in the Luftwaffe. They will be scrapped soon after this open day on the 29th of June. On this day the first typhoon for Wittmund will arrive.

It's very sad that this will be the end of this fantastic plane!!
But we should to be gratefull that the Luftwaffe will organize this nice weekend for us.
I hope that everybody will behave this weekend, and do no things that are forbidden!!
So i think it will be great to get there this weekend!! I hope to see you all there!!

I hope you like this information.

With best regards,

According to http://www.phantom-pharewell.de/index.p ... fenen-tuer there will indeed be some kind of limited air display on the "Tag der offenen Tür / Open Day":
Flying Display

geplante Darstellung Bw, Polizei, THW, Feuerwehr, Reservistenkameradschaft

Verlosung von Rundflügen über Flugsportgruppe

InfoTruck Bw mit Simulator (noch nicht bestätigt)

Translation into English through http://translate.google.com/translate?s ... fenen-tuer if your German is somewhat "rusty"

The second special F-4F of JG71 has appeared: 'Norm 72', the first camo scheme. Wunderbar!

Wow :D .

Does anyone know if this plane will fly regular missions till its end? Or wil it stay grounded till the airshow?

Of course it will fly, with the few aircraft remaining you can't keep 2 special painted ones (+ 2 more to come) on the ground for several months

38+10 (Norm 72 colour scheme) was delivered from Jever to Wittmund today and taxied into the regular shelter area, so I presume it will be flying regularly soon.

As far as I know Phantom-Pharewell.de did not have a "how to register-section" yet.

Page http://www.phantom-pharewell.de/index.php/phantom-home indeed now mentions "Spotterday .... Anmeldung über Luftwaffe.de ", but a search through http://www.luftwaffe.de with "suchbegriffe" did not yield any recent results...

indeed mentions that registration needs to be done through http://www.luftwaffe.de , but it also states that the link to the registration will be added there in due course. So, hang on just a bit!
