And as you can hear from the background noises they really weren't expecting General Mattis of US Central Command to appear at Peter O Knight Airport coming from "Southwest Asia", and certainly not with a C-17.... :twisted:

The C-17 take-off in the evening was a bit of a "non-event" in comparison... :wink:

Press release says ; It was unclear why the plane, headed to MacDill, made an unscheduled landing at the small airport near downtown Tampa.

This could be only one thing : The pilot landed at the wrong airfield. Maybe to focused on the runway 22 , that he looked at the wrong runway , the 22 of McDill is only 5 mile further ...

Yeah, but I don't understand that he didn't realise the runway is a bit too short to be the 11421ft long runway at MacDills. This one was 3405ft.(more then 3 times shorter). Not the best move you could make with a general in the back of your plane ;-)
