Incident: TUIFly Nordic B738 over Germany on Jul 25th 2012, loss of communication
A TUIFly Nordic Boeing 737-800, registration SE-DZV performign flight 6B-153 from Gothenburg (Sweden) to Palma Mallorca,SP (Spain),
was enroute over Germany when radio contact between aircraft and ATC was lost prompting two German fighter aircraft to be dispatched to identify the aircraft.
After the fighters intercepted the aircraft radio communication was re-established about 27 minutes later. The aircraft continued for a safe landing in Mallorca.
Passengers reported the fighter aircraft came very close to the Boeing at same altitude. Passengers waved and the fighter pilots waved back.
The airline confirmed the loss of communication and said, an investigation is underway.
Germany's Luftwaffe confirmed two Phantoms on a training mission were redirected to intercept the Boeing for identification and assurance there was no unlawful interference.
The Phantoms escorted the Boeing for about 15 minutes.
