Just al small trip report this time since I've just got back from a trip through East Africa.
As we had to make it back to Dar es Salaam from Zanzibar last friday we decided to take a flight in stead of the ferryboat.
It's quite cheap to fly this stretch which only takes 20 minutes or so. We paid around 45 euro per person, in comparison to 30 for the boat.
Sorry for the bad quality of the shots, most are taken through glass but I didn' t wantto let the chance go by to show you some exotic stuff from Africa.
Behind the check-in counter at Zanzibar, a few smaller propellor planes are lined up for private tours or flight to even more remote islands near this one.
This South African registered Dornier showed up with about 10 pax and left within 5 minutes completely empty.
Tropical air has leased this 33 year old Atr (msn 157?) which has seen every corner of the world allready. It left for Arusha with a group of tourists on board.
Arusha is known for the startingpoint of many serengeti safari's aswell as the place to arrange treks up the mount Kilimanjaro en mount Meru.
Precision Air does the daily rotation for Kenya Airways to Mombasa using their Atr 72's
Zan air is using Let aircraft to fly between ZNZ and DAR. Unfortunatly they were full...
Alternative was to take Tropical air which use a Cessna Caravan on the route to Dar.
It arrived punctual and boarding commenced on time aswell.Pretty unusual in this part of the world.

Take off was a real experience. We taxied out behind a beech prop and in stead of waiting for a few seconds our pilot opened full throttle right after the beech did on the runway. Result was a take off which seperated the two aircraft for only 80 meters or so. Maybe a common thing in aviation here but haven't seen it before.
Landing wasn't different in that perspective!
Julius Nyere Intl' airport is quite a small field which handles all civilian aviation for the largest city in Tanzania by far.

Suddenly the pilot made a sharp bank to the left on finals and on the right side I could see why. Another small plane was on final approach too and we were way too close to land in sequence. After the go around we were able to land safely. Welcome in Africa! Spot the plane on the picture!

JNIA is a Pilatus heaven; I saw about 10 in the few minutes I spent on the tarmac!
Some other stuff:
I saw the Tanzanian Government which visited Woensdrecht quite recently but was unable to take a decent shot of it. From looking at the condition it seemed to be active and flying.
