Post by Flanker »

is it allowed to listen to a scanner in the USA:
better keep it low profile (comparable to Germany) or even better : just keep it home  ?

Should be no trouble.

Customs at Dallas saw my scanner a few years ago,and there was no problem.

The spotters at Navy Fort Worth and Alliance use scanners openly.

You can purchase scanners in the States.

Been to the States about 15 times with several scanners, no trouble at all listening outside military airfield's or going through customs.
The only problem is the use of scanners at airshows the last couple of years, they are banned at some airshows and when entering
through security checkpoint and if they find your scanner, you wont be allowed in .... so be carefull at airshows.

Some of them are okay just near military bases eyes(security)will be watching you,as long as you are not on the base, generally if you are on public property you are fine, some airports like Nashville have spots for people to listen and take pictures.
