Dikovic: Controls failure possible cause of crash
BELGRADE – Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Lt Gen Ljubisa Dikovic said Wednesday that the plane crash which killed one pilot occurred after controls on the aircraft malfunctioned.
"It is too early to say why the plane crashed with the information we have at the moment.
According to the statement given by pilot Tomislav Begovic, the aircraft's controls malfunctioned,
but we still do not know the details and the investigation will show what exactly happened," Dikovic said after visiting the injured pilot at the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade.
He added that the crash occurred during a regular test flight on a Lasta aircraft,
while Major Goran Savic, who was killed in the crash, was taking an exam for his test pilot license.
Dikovic said that according to the surviving pilot's account,
the two pilots ejected at the last moment and Begovic managed to land safely using a parachute,
while Savic was unsuccessful in this.
The chief of General Staff said an investigation into the cause of the accident was underway and the public would be kept informed.
