Myanmar graaft Britse Spitfires WOII op

Post by Arjan »

The excavating team should not be over-excited. The exact number is unknown, but estimated between 20 and 100. let them first see what's left of these aircraft? Who knows what 70 years of being buried does to aircraft...

What would some present owners of Spitfires think of this?
If Spitfires of certain marks/variants are becoming less rare "re-sale values" of these variants may drop eventually...

On the other hand, it would also be a brand new source for spares but this is all speculating. From my point of view it would be great if they even found one, preferably in flying condition....... And then to keep it in it's original colors and cherish her...

Zal een paar stuivers kosten dit verhaal. Sorry typisch hollands.

update:

"Confirmation:
More than 25 years ago, British farmer David Cundall overheard a comment from a group of U.S. veterans who said they buried an unused fleet of World War II Spitfires in the Burmese jungle. The original find was thought to be about 20 planes, but updated estimates put that number at 140. … the Spitfires are buried in the original crates with their wings folded back along their bodies, covered in grease and wax paper. Their joints are even tarred and they're expected to be in pristine condition."
