S. Korean fighter jets to make non-stop flight to Alaska for drills SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Yonhap) --
South Korea's F-15K combat jets plan to fly non-stop to Alaska through aerial refueling to attend a U.S.-led multinational combat training exercise to be held in the northwestern tip of the North American continent next year, officials said Monday.
"F-15Ks plan to fly to Alaska through air-to-air refueling to attend a Red Flag exercise in August of next year," a senior Air Force official said.
It would be the first time for South Korean fighter jets to fly non-stop by air refueling to participate in a joint drill held overseas, Seoul officials said.
The South Korean Air Force participated in the Red Flag hosted at the U.S. Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada last January when a pair of the combat-proven advanced variant of F-15E was delivered directly from Boeing's U.S. factory.
South Korea has purchased 60 of Boeing's F-15 fighter jets since 2002 in the first two stages of its fighter modernization program. The U.S. contractor delivered the last batch of the planes in April this year.
