An AMX Brazilian Air Force (FAB) fighter plane crashed after hitting a 40m transmission (high-voltage) tower of the Electric Power Plant of Machadinho, at about 09:40 a.m. on the border of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
The plane fell into a lake at the plant, and came to rest just partially submerged. The pilot did not survive the accident.
