Beech 18 moves from Nijmegen to Schaarsbergen (NL)

The well-known Beech D18S that has been "preserved" for years by breaker Kleingeld in Nijmegen (Netherlands) will move to Arnhem next monday, december 17, 2012. It has been acquired by the Arnhem War Museum, located at the Kemperbergerweg in Schaarsbergen (near Arnhem). The aircraft, PH-UBX (c/n A-105) has a long history; it was operated by the Netherlands Government Air Transport as NL-505 immediately after the war. In 1946 it was transferred to the Rijksluchtvaartschool as PH-UBX, where it remained operational until 1965. In 1968, it was donated to a school for the blind in Grave (NL), from which it was acquired by breaker Kleyngeld somewhere in the 70's. (thanx to Herman Dekker for the register-information!)

Edit: after consulting Herman Dekker, I have to conclude that the previous identity "NL-505" does not necessarily mean that the aircraft was actually operated by the NGAT. It is probable that the Beeches were intended for NGAT use, but transferred to the Rijksluchtvaartschool immediately upon delivery. The NGAT was a government-run "airline" immediately post-war, when civil aviation was still virtually impossible. As things changed, the KLM and other civil operators regained the possibility to operate, and NGAT was no longer necessary. Still, although a lot about the very early history of these Beeches is unknown, it is known that PH-UBX lives on!
