Isn't it way too early to consider replacing the Hornet? They barely have been in service for 15 years...

proto hasn't even flown yet, Swedish service entry scheduled 2017, plus 2 years delay til LOC/MOC (no reason why this project should be the only aviationproject delivering on time -on budget..), than they will build Swedish and Swiss planes first so by that time the Hornets will be in service for at least 23 years...

You're right. The Dutch F-16's were in service for 23 years by the turn of 2003. By the time their successor is ready and in service, another 20 years will have passed since 2003.

This is a official statement of the Finnish Parlament. They declare that in the planning period is the air defence to be
strenghten.

The Russians have stronger air defence as S-300 and S-400 in area and in future S-500. Newer radar stations are in operation as step to counter stealth such as F-35.

Remember also that the Russians planning to strengthen the Arctic area military.

Although the last energy alternatives counter the Russian energy incomes in near future. For instance is the Stockman
fields delayed.
