Following small fire in aircraft cargo hold, Hercules plane makes emergency landing in civilian airport; no injuries reported
An IAF Hercules plane made an emergency landing at the Mahanaim civilian airport in the Galilee, due to a fire that broke out in the plane's cargo hold. No injuries were reported.
Firefighting teams at the scene extinguished the flames and the airport was closed for landings and take-offs.
The IDF launched an investigation and the aircraft's mechanisms are being examined. The fire was probably the result of a short circuit. "Apparently a generator in the Hercules' cargo hold caught fire," Nathan Ben-Shimol, spokesperson of the Galilee and Golan Fire Department, told Ynet. "The plane made an emergency landing, the airport's firefighters arrived at the scene and seven Galilee firefighting teams were called in. There were no injuries. The plane was damaged. After an hour the airport was reopened."
