PS Aero, Baarlo and Kessel, 20-04-2013

Post by frank kramer »

Last Saturday, EWAS went to visit the famous enterprise of Piet Smedts in Baarlo. It must be said, Piet is tidying up his business considerably. Most aircraft in Baarlo are arranged in a neat fashion, allowing for reasonable to good photo-conditions. A lot of the fuselages that used to be laying around have moved to Kessel or elsewhere. Fortunately, we were given the opportunity to deviate from the "standard tour" and visited the storage area in nearby Kessel as well. Below is a log of what was seen where. It is not complete, as I didn't manage to succesfully photograph AND log everything in the two hours of our visit (giving the priority to photo's). Also, I did not check up on any other reports/records yet. However, I am sure that some of the other participants could easily fill in some of the blanks here!

I might visit Baarlo/Kessel this weekend from the outside and have a question is the following aircraft can be seen from the outside?
Alpha Jet 40+23 stored outside
C-160D GAF (I guess it's tail should be visible for sure)
the T-33 in a showroom (?)
Jaguar XZ357 visible from outside, now pres along road N274?

I have not been there for years and don't know about a showroom!
If so, are those only visible from the "gardencenter" (tuincentrum)??

TIA,
Erik

That must been quite some years, I myself havend been there for years, but the garden center (tuincentrum) must have been closed down for a decade orso... Nowadays a Aldi supermarked is located on former "tuincentrum" ground.

Why not contact Piet Smedts? He now runs tours on saterdays for €10 euro's per person.

Last time I wanted to "book" a visit he came up with a date over 6 months later so make sure you plan way in advance !!

I forgot, indeed it's now an Aldi ! But no aircraft can bee seen from the Aldi grounds?
I have booked twice a tour in Baarlo+Kessel, but that is years ago and this saturday I don't have time for a tour, so might Piet (Volkel show).
Just curious if the mentioned planes were visible from outside?
And the showroom is at the streetside N273?

Erik,

sorry I did not see your reply earlier than today... I happened to be at Volkel on Thursday and Friday and did not check this site till now...
Alpha Jet is invisible from outside, being parked in the main area
Transall tail might just be visible from the side of the location (gate behind the lone Atla tail), being in the main area
T-33 is in the former car-showroom immediately behind the 3 aircraft parked next to the N274, with the 2 F-104's in the part to the left of that when seen from the road.
Jaguar XZ357 is indeed one of the 3 aircraft parked next to the main road

Hope this still helps...
