One of the Japanese news paper said ;

They are seeking new A/Cs now and will decide by the end of FY2013(March 2014).

They(We) have 2 B-747-47Cs now, 20-1101 and 20-1102 operated by JASDF 701Sqn., Special Airlift Group at Chitose.

こんにちはUni-san ,

Indeed , those JSDAF 747-400's will be retired ending FY2018. A seemingly probable replacement aircraft might be the 787. In Japan it is seen as a semi-domestic aircraft with 35% of its parts and components are made in Japan. Current 747 Crew and Maintenance training was performed by JAL , but JAL has retired its 747 fleet. Leaving ANA(747-400D) and NCA (747/747-8f) as the sole 747 operators in Japan. If the 747-8i is to be chosen as the successor , maintenance sustainability of that type will become a major factor.
