AdlA Mirage crash Mail, both pilots rescued

Earlier today a Mirage 2000 (probably a D) crashed in Mali, near the village of Hombori, close to the Burkina Faso border.
Cause of the crash seems to be technical malfunction.
Both pilots ejected and were picked up by French Caïman helicopter.

The Dassault Mirage 2000D, belonging to the 3rd Fighter Wing of the French Air Force,
had taken off from the projected airbase (BAP) of Niamey, in Niger.
The crash occurred in Hombori region.

According to armed forces spokesman Colonel Pascal Ianni, the two pilots involved were safe.
One of them was reportedly injured and transported to Gao military base.

“Terrorist groups are not the cause of the problem”, Ianni said.

L’équipage (pilote et navigateur) s’est éjecté
avant le crash de l’appareil en provenance de la Base aérienne projetée (BAP) de Niamey.

Actuellement, des Mirage 2000 de la 3e escadre de chasse et
des Mirage 2000C de l’EC 2/5 Ile-de-France sont localisés sur la BAP.

Le crash aurait eu lieu vers 11 h (heure locale) dans le secteur de Hombori.

Selon l’état-major des Armées,
un groupe commando a été immédiatement engagé à bord de deux hélicoptères Caïman,
appuyés par deux hélicoptères Tigre,
pour établir un dispositif de sécurité et récupérer l’équipage.

L’épave de l’avion, qui s’est écrasé dans une zone inhabitée,
a été localisée par la force Barkhane.

Une enquête va être initiée pour préciser l’origine de cet accident.
