On Wednesday December 22, 2021, the Royal Netherlands Air Force said goodbye to the last CH-47D Chinook, also known as the Delta Chinook. The eleven helicopters of the Delta variant that were employed by the Royal Netherlands Air Force are being replaced by fourteen new ones of the more modern CH-47F.
The Air Force already has six CH-47Fs in service, which are being upgraded to meet the MYII CAAS standard like the new helicopters. The last CH-47D with registration D-667 flew with the 298 Squadron at Gilze-Rijen Air Base. On Wednesday, December 22, the aircraft flew to the GLV-V training area near Oirschot to be captured in flight for the last time on photo and film by approximately 75 photographers and spotters. A tour was also made along Soesterberg, the former airbase where the Chinook was stationed for years. The aircraft was accompanied by two other new Chinooks and a police helicopter from the KLPD. With this last flight, the Delta era in the Netherlands came officially to an end.
