https://www.laprovence.com/article/actu ... gnane.htmlIt's a feat that left speechless the thousand guests invited this morning to Eurocopter's headquarters in Marignane
to attend the first in-flight presentation of the new EC175 helicopter developed in cooperation with China.
During the flypast organized for the occasion and in which the entire civil range of the Franco-German manufacturer participated,
test pilot Jacques Larra and his crew achieved an exceptional performance by looping their EC225 Super Puma.
A purely civilian machine of 11 tons which had in no way been modified or prepared for the occasion.
The loop was shot in a volume of 200 feet, or only 70 meters between its lowest point and its highest point;
all while maintaining a positive load factor, with only +1.7G acceleration at end of resource.
A figure given a standing ovation by the crowd who at the same time paid tribute to Jacques Larra, a young 57-year-old retiree.
" The Super Puma was not designed for aerobatics,
but the fact that it can perform such a figure shows that the crew can get out of difficult situations,
especially in the event of loss of reference " ,
simply commented the interested in leaving his cockpit.
Contrary to what one might think, this figure is a very gentle maneuver that does not impose any mechanical stress on the helicopter ".
And to add with great modesty:
" If the Super Puma was able to do this looping,
it is above all thanks to the architecture of its rotor and the quality of the electronic regulation of its motors ".
Conditions undoubtedly necessary but not sufficient if there had not been an exceptional pilot at the controls...
