Colombia chooses the KAI TA/FA-50 as its new advanced training aircraft
This decision is part of the approval by the government of the Comprehensive National Defense System.

Colombia has selected the Korean Aerospace Industries TA/FA-50 type aircraft
as its future advanced training aircraft
with which it intends to replace its current fleet of Cessna A-37B aircraft ,
which are about to be definitively withdrawn from service,
according to reports
This decision is made months after a Colombian delegation,
led by the Vice Minister of Defense and the deputy commander of the Colombian Air Force ,
visited South Korea in the second half of last year.
Likewise, the selection of the South Korean aircraft is given in view of the approval, by the current government,
of the Comprehensive National Defense System ( Siden ),
through which the equipment, systems and means required
by the Armed Forces of the country for the fulfillment of the assigned constitutional missions.
The KAI TA/FA-50
The TA/FA-50 is a two-seater aircraft powered by a General Electric F404 - type plant,
which allows it to reach speeds of up to Mach 1.5 (1,837 KmxH),
with a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 13,000 kilograms.
The aircraft can perform ground support operations, thanks to its wide array of weapons,
including an M-197 Gatling cannon
and the ability to deliver both guided and dumb missiles, rockets and bombs.
The Korean offer
As this medium has been able to find out, in exchange for finalizing this purchase,
South Korea has offered Colombia the donation of different means, including ocean patrol boats and helicopters,
in order to strengthen the already excellent defense and security relations
that both countries maintain. .
The links between the two nations have already resulted in the donation, in the recent past,
of two corvettes by the Korean Navy ( ROKN ) to the Colombian Navy ( ARC ),
as well as support for the Colombian shipbuilding industry through its International Cooperation Agency.
