Ukrainan transport aircraft crashed yesterday in Greece.

All crew reported lost in the crash.

The pilot reported before the crash of engine disturbance and wanted a rescue landing.

At first it seemed inbound Kuçovë, but now I am not so sure.. It's flying at a constant speed of 120kts at 2200ft over Albania in a SE direction. Looks more like an ADS-B mix-up with a Cessna or Piper! Not an Su57. And nothing to do with the war anyway I think.

Russian jet released missile near RAF aircraft over Black Sea
Published

A missile was released from a Russian aircraft near an unarmed RAF plane on patrol over the Black Sea, the defence secretary has said.

Ben Wallace said the "potentially dangerous" incident happened on 29 September 2022 in international airspace.

Russia said it was the result of a "technical malfunction".

UK patrols over the Black Sea were suspended but have now resumed and are escorted :!: by a fighter jet following Russia's response.

Mr Wallace told MPs the incident was not being treated as a "deliberate escalation" of the war in Ukraine by Russian forces.

The incident last month involved two Russian SU-27s and an unarmed RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint - a civilian-style aircraft.

Speaking in the Commons, Mr Wallace said that during an "interaction" one of the SU-27 aircraft "released a missile in the vicinity of the RAF Rivet Joint beyond visual range".

He said he expressed his concerns in a letter to the Russian defence minister.

The minister's reply on 10 October 2022 said an investigation had been conducted and found there had been a "technical malfunction" with the Russian plane, Mr Wallace said.

They also acknowledged the incident took place in international airspace, he added.

It is not unusual for aircraft to be shadowed, and this day was no different.

During that interaction, however,
it transpired that one of the Su-27 aircraft released a missile in the vicinity of the RAF Rivet Joint beyond visual range,
the total time of the interaction between the Russian aircraft and the rivet joint was approximately 90 minutes,
the patrol completed, and the aircraft returned to its base.

The UK defence secretary has revealed that a Russian fighter jet recently “released a missile” in the vicinity of a British aircraft over the Black Sea.

Ben Wallace told the Commons
the incident occurred in “international airspace over the Black Sea” on 29 September 2022,
adding that an
“unarmed RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint” plane was “interacted with” by two Russian Su-27s,
one of which “released a missile
in the vicinity of the RAF Rivet Joint beyond visual range”.

Wallace told the Commons that Russia blamed the missile release on a “technical malfunction”.

“The patrol completed and the aircraft returned to its base,” he said.

“In light of this potentially dangerous engagement,
I have communicated my concerns directly to my Russian counterpart, Defence Minister [Sergei] Shoigu,
and the chief of defence staff in Moscow.”

He added: “In my letter I made clear the aircraft was unarmed, in international airspace, and following a pre-notified :!: flight path.

I felt it was prudent to suspend these patrols until a response was received by the Russian state.

“The reply by the Russian minister of defence on October 10 stated
they have conducted an investigation into the circumstances of the incident
and stated it was a technical malfunction of the Su-27 fighter.

They also acknowledge that the incident took place in international airspace.”

He concluded his report into the incident over the Black Sea by telling the Commons:

“The UK Ministry of Defence has shared this information with allies and,
after consultation, I have restarted routine patrols,
but this time escorted by fighter aircraft.

“Everything we do is considered calibrated with regard to ongoing conflict in the region and in accordance with international law.

“We welcome Russia’s acknowledgement
this was in international airspace,
and the UK has conducted regular sorties with the RAF Rivet Joint
in international airspace over the Black Sea since 2019 and we will continue to do so.”

The Royal Air Force provided one of its RC-135 surveillance aircraft
an escort of two Typhoons over the Black Sea today as the type monitored Russian forces in occupied Ukraine.

The deployment of British RC-135 surveillance aircraft on these missions is routine,
but they are very rarely escorted by Typhoon jets.

News item | 22-12-2022 | 6:09 PM

8 F-35s of the Royal Netherlands Air Force are in Poland in February and March 2023.

4 fighter jets are available for surveillance of NATO airspace over Eastern Europe.

The other 4 go through a training program with allies, but can be deployed quickly.

The F-35s are stationed at Malbork Air Base in the north of the country.

The monitoring task consists of the so-called quick reaction alert .

The fighter jets can take off within minutes to intercept an aircraft.
This happens, for example, if an aircraft does not identify itself or approaches the airspace without permission.

2 F-35s permanently guard NATO airspace, the other two are reserve.
This way commitment is guaranteed.
