Documentary: "The Longest Month"
Place: Iraq, 2007.
Units: 1st ACB, 1-227 Avn and 4-227 Avn.
Aircraft: AH-64D.
"The Longest Month" consists primarily of interviews that were conducted with former members of two Attack Helicopter Battalions, Foot Soldiers, and in-theater Army leadership involved with events, most of which occurred during the month of February 2007 in and around Baghdad, Iraq. This period of time is more popularly known as "The Surge". The interviews are edited together to provide the primary content for this project for this project, along with photos and video taken by the personnel covered in the documentary. Additionally, "gun tape" footage from engagements, described in the film is used.
Typically I do not post these types of posts but with US Veterans Day approaching, knowing the initiator of this project, a retired US ARMY CWO, and the film director this is the least I can do to bring this movie to the aviation community of Scramble. My son and I went to the premiere of this movie in Fort Worth, TX. The premiere was dedicated to the personnel of the 1st ACB and their family (about 50-75 people). I do not think anyone left without tears rolling down their cheeks. Over a span of 6 days two Apaches were lost:
Jan 28, 2007 Cpt Mark Resh and CW3 Cornell Chao were shot down and KIA near An Najaf.
Feb 2, 2007 CW4 Keith Yoakum and CW2 Jason DeFrenn were shot down and KIA near Camp Taji.
