On Wednesday, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced
that collapsed airline Flybe's administrators
had applied for a temporary air operator certificate (AOC).

If successful, this does not mean that the twice-folded airline's flights would resume right away.

However, it would give the administrators a chance to get the carrier on solid footing.

It is the first time ever in history that the CAA has received a request for a temporary license from a bankrupt airline.
As quoted by The Independent, a spokesperson for the CAA said,

Not even a year of Flybe 2.0 operations

The new Flybe received its AOC in April 2021, but it took a year before operations were back up and running.

However, following a brief stint back in the regional skies, Flybe collapsed again and ceased trading on January 28, 2023.

UK's Flybe to wind down after rescue talks ends

British regional airline Flybe will start the process of winding down its business after talks regarding a recuse sale of its business collapsed, the company's joint administrators said on Wednesday.

"Despite significant interest from a number of credible parties, it has not been possible to develop a transaction in the available timeframe," Interpath Advisory said.

Flybe faces permanent grounding after rescue talks with bidders stall

Once one of Europe’s biggest regional airlines, Flybe
is to be wound down
after its administrators terminated discussions with potential buyers.

Interpath Advisory, the insolvency practitioner,
has terminated talks with potential buyers,
which were reported to have included Air France-KLM and the German carrier Lufthansa.

Sources close to the process said
"use it or lose it" rules relating to take-off and landing slots
had been a contributing factor in making a sale of the business too difficult to execute.

Flybe relaunched less than a year ago
after being bought out of administration by Cyrus Capital,
a little-known investor with limited experience of owning aviation businesses.

One insider said a sale had also partly been stymied by complexities
relating to European authorities' attitude to a temporary operating licence for Flybe
that would have been issued by the UK's Civil Aviation Authority.
