Air Premia to Europe for the first time

Post by YS11 »

South Korea's Air Premia will fly to Europe for the first time this summer. From May, the airline will operate weekly charter flights between Seoul and Oslo for South Korean tourists, and from the end of June, Air Premia plans to start a scheduled service to Frankfurt.

The company started operationally in 2021 and already offers several scheduled services within Asia and to Los Angeles. In May there will be a route to New York Newark, also from home base Seoul. The fleet currently consists of three 787-9s, but more are expected in the near term.

Air Premia calls itself a hybrid airline (a mix between low-cost airline and full service) and is a bit like Norwegian in terms of business model when that airline still operated longhaul flights. Some of Air Premia's 787s flew for Norwegian in the past.

There is no Business Class on board, but Premium Economy and Economy.

Incidentally, the competition on the Seoul – Frankfurt route is not tender: Korean Air, Asiana and Lufthansa are also active on that route. Asiana will even use the Airbus A380 again on some of the flights during the summer holidays, allowing almost 500 passengers per flight.

There have been no direct flights between Oslo and South Korea since 2019. Norwegian airport operator Avinor reports that in addition to South Korean tourists, Air Premia will also transport Norwegian fish for luxury restaurants and fish shops in Seoul.
