Req: W&R Roma area + Viterbo + Pisa

Post by erik_kamphuis »

Planning a holiday end April/May in Rome area and Tuscany, I want so visit some W&R and active mil a/c.
Can anyone help me with next info:

Roma city centre (Villa Borghese) a ex GdF A-109 in Corpo Forestale c/s should be preserved in a Bioparco/ZOO. Can it been seen without entering this ZOO? Is it free accessible? (l/n 5-16)
Roma-Ciampino:
Scramble updates mentioned in Oct22 two AB204 as being stored outside seen. Where can I find those exactly? Behind the 31St Falcon ramp a AB47 should be pres. Is it visible from north side (gasstation), were sometimes a CL415 is parked? AB204 MM80278/31-31 (pres on base l/n Oct19), can this one been seen from outside somewhere? If you spot low profile from the car park near the Albatros/Sea King the CL415 ramp, no trouble can be expected?
Practica di Mare:
Are any W&R visible from outside? I know Frecce G91 and the new Tornado at the main gate. The C-47 at 14St ramp. See also PA200 Pratica topic!
Viterbo North:
At the aeroclub some maintenance for Polizia P68 Observers is done. Is this part accessible when gate is open? The pres G91T has gone here? The 9 stored Chinooks are easy and the spec c/s pres CH-47 on midfield. Any others? Visible at 2 gates should be F-104/MB326 and AB204 EI-222?
Viterbo south:
Are those 5 still at the dump, visible from the thermal springs in south: (EI-000/257/259/289/403) All l/n aug20
At the gate next to the AB47 and L-18 a new AB412 (MM81197)/EI-454 was seen here nov22 (replaced AB204 EI-220?)
On GE I see some choppers pres (with CH-47) like some base museum. Isn’t this visible from the outside east side over a wall from the Viterbo Tennis club or are those gone??
Pisa:
3 C-130s are stored for a time here. Are those on the main ramp with the active ones? Visible from the south side (bridge?).
C-130 46-60 should also be std engineless near the maintenance area. Is this opposite the IKEA?
Where can I find the GdF/Carabinieri ramp? Is the std GdF AB412 outside gone to Africa?
All info is welcome, here or on PM.

Erik, with the 100 Anni flypast this month, 100 Anni airshow in June (& NTM later), just about everyone & their uncle (or aunt) will be in or around Rome this year.

Scuderia Baldini

whether you need the Spilone or not should be top of the list, maybe FC will have a separate section for Rome & environs?

I also got a log from (Nov 2022) the Bentivoglio scrapyart in the north of Rome.
5 ex GdF A-109 are there (IDs known) and 2 unmarked Italian Army AB206 both on top of a container.
Maybe anyone for their ID?

Are you sure they are 206's and not 212's?
This is also a log from Nov'22;

Hi Sjoerd, no the 212s are the grey former MMI choppers. There are 2 green camo AB206 that are also visible on streetview from the highway and parkinglot across the highway.

Streetview/maps is from July 2022. Most likely the have left the yard.

Outdoors at the MAXXI Museum on Via Guido Reni in Rome is this G91 (inverted, unfortunately). It's outside the museum building (at the back) so no entrance fee required.

Hi
Regarding the Gina at the back of the MAXXI museum, can you just enter the museum via the pedestrian gate on Via Guido Reni and walk to the rear to see this. May also call in for this if its reasonably easy to see
Any info gratefully received.
Kind regards Graham

Graham, yes you can, as the museum is situated in a kind of plaza that does not require purchase of a ticket unless you are going to the indoor museum proper. I'm not sure how it works if the museum is actually closed as they might close the gate from the street. If it was closed you should still be able to see the aircraft from the street behind the museum (Largo Girolamo Rainaldi).

Visible at the Roma-Palazzo dell'Aeronautica - 41.90208622695183, 12.508308519363597
Unknown if this is a real aircraft or a replica.
