Air Defender 2023 serial overview spin-off

Post by Key »

Sjoerd wrote: 24 Jun 2023, 15:41 As to Jagel, the enlisted airmen even call it Kropp-Jagel airbase as per NDR interviews. However, the Luftwaffe themselves use Jagel as official name; https://www.bundeswehr.de/de/organisati ... -immelmann
Check, thanks Sjoerd. I see they literally call it 'Fliegerhorst Jagel' further down the page, with the Kai-Uwe-von-Hassel Kaserne (TLG 51 home) being in Kropp of course. This is probably one of those cases where military base is not exactly the same as airfield - there are many examples of that. I'll leave it in the locations db as it is.

Cheers,
Erik

Erik,
However, the sign at the gate shows Fliegerhorst Schleswig. 🤔

So the most logical will be Schleswig or Schleswig-Jagel.

There are always different names for a base:

In Kropp there are the barracks of TLwG 51, Jagel is the nearest and bigger village at the airbase. ICAO is always saying Schleswig or Schleswig-Jagel.
The local spotters mostly say Jagel.

............................. plus Jagel is really named Schleswig (like here).
..... :?: Erik
well now Erikey, that actually depents on were you are looking. 'Dhze dzhermans' call it "Fliegerhorst Jagel". Like it or hate. right or wrong, it is really mentioned just like that on the off. BW site in relation to AD2023.

Confused? you won't be after this episode of... soap!

In ENAME (may 2007 was closest to my desk) Schleswig is taken up, but Jagel is mentioned as (Jagel) behind it.
AND
Jagel also appears in the book, but there it redirects readers to the entry under Schleswig.

I use both names, but write it down as Schleswig-Jagel, then and now.

((guess English speakers, best call it Schleswig or Jah-kel or Schleswig-Jah-kel))
