In the afternoon of the 21st of June there were 3 aircraft parked at the southside: EF2000(T) 30+59, Tornado 44+69 and a Grippen. Anyone who can tell me which Hungarian JAS39 it was?
Jagel closed for the annual two-week period on 28.07. until 14.08.
Hohn is closed for five weeks until early-September. It’s runway was heavily battered in four weeks of afterburner operations during Air Defender and the building-up phase.
Wunstorf will have some low-key operations until 14.08. with only few A400M and some visitors during the days.
Bad news for Jagel spotters and spotters who don’t like to take pictures of UAV now and in the future.
For TLwG 51 there are obviously no plans getting any fighter jets in the time after phasing out the Tornados. Also the NATO Tiger Meet 2024 will be the last at Jagel for all times. The 15 Eurofighter EK (ex ECR) will go to one of the other four wings operating the type.
For the German Luftwaffe replacing 93 Tornados with 35 F-35A and 15 Eurofighter EK it means it will effectively loose the strength of one fighter wing, perhaps a totally wrong sign in these times.
With UAV and Global PEGASUS flying at Jagel in the next decade it is not known what will happen to Hohn air base which as well is part of the wing. Hopefully every two or three years both bases will take their role in some Air Defender like exercises.
TLwG 51 unveiled it’s new special coloured Tornado ECR, 46+38, on 6.9. It has a black fin with a Roman warrior with sword and shield on it, spin, fin tip and cockpit section in tiger colors and fuel tanks in tiger/black scheme. „51 Tigers“ is written on the fin.
Noted on 11.09. during the morning mission were the following Tornados:
IDS 43+29, 45+59
ECR 46+49, 46+54, 46+56 and 46+57
Returning from Kleine Brogel was special colored „51 Tigers“ ECR 46+38 with enough fuel for three overshoots and a touch and go before landing. It is planned to visit the Ostrava Air Show on the next weekend.
Noted active in the morning of 2.11. were the following TLwG 51 Tornados:
IDS: 43+29, 44+21, 45+14, 45+16 and 44+75 (the latter came back from maintenance at Manching)
ECR: 46+46
Also flying was long-term loan 44+58 of TLwG 33. The crew of 44+75 should have gone back to Manching with special coloured ECR 46+38, but obviously it went u/s.
Eurofighter GT 30+24 of TLwG 73 did two touch and go´s in the morning and another two in the afternoon.
The weather tooks it toll in these days and after one week of heavy snow, which is rare in Schleswig-Holstein, black ice and ice rain arrived and from 6.12. additionally quite heavy fog. So Jagel and Hohn were mainly closed with MIL-Codes between BLACKWHITE and BLACKYELLOW from late-November 27th/early-November 28th until now.
