It's that time of year again! Typically these US Army autumn rotations go along with bad weather. And this year was no exception, causing delays as well with the total force moving out further East. Still, when do you get to see nearly 50 US Army helicopters in one go? The 27th of October was the day where 43 of the total 49 helicopters were present at staging base Woensdrecht. The helicopters were flown in from nearby Vlissingen port and all but two had arrived by then. A further 4 Blackhawks had made their lucky escape already four days ago when the weather was half decent.
] Upon arrival the local 131 sqn also went out to play.
] Having never been here before with a digital camera, this was a nice opportunity as well to frame these PC-7's.
] Especially nice, as the days of these these old machines are numbered and a search for replacement is already ongoing. This is one of 2 in special marks especially for the 35yr celebration of the type in service.
] The main attraction. The 42nd helicopter is about to set down.
] A close up of the closest line.
] Some Medi-hawks made it out, but stumbled upon some low clouds and returned within half an hour again.
] Another one of a total of nine HH-60M that went through The Netherlands. The other 6 wenth through Thessaloniki where around 35 helicopter were discharged as well.
] A pair of Chinooks also made their way in from Vlissingen port.
] Only this one had the large 1 CAB identifying badge on its aft pylon.
] The locals returning.
] "Well planned" crossover shot.
] A few nights earlier I was also about and was lucky with one shot (of many) that eventually didn't end up in the bin. The conditions of this years rotation were harsh to say at the least.
I hope you liked them!
