Navy without on-board helicopter: All Sea Lynx must remain on the ground
Published onNovember 7, 2023
The German Navy's on-board helicopters have not been released for flight operations for more than a month.
Due to a technical problem , the Sea Lynx helicopters have had to remain on the ground since September 2023,
the Navy confirmed.
However, no details were given.
According to information from eyes straight ahead! Cracks are said to have appeared in the machines.
The branch of the armed forces did not want to comment on this.
We are working hard on the issue and currently assume that the problem will be resolved soon, a Navy spokesman said at the end of October.
However, according to the Navy, the problem continued....
The Navy's Sea Lynx fleet had already been affected by cracks in the helicopter in 2014 .
At that time, however, this only led to a restriction in flight operations,
but not to a complete cessation,
as is now the case.
Among other things, the machines were blocked for use abroad.
The aging on-board helicopters are to be replaced by new helicopters in the next few years;
a variant of the NH90 helicopter from Airbus under the name Sea Tiger is planned.
In 2020, the German Navy ordered 31 of these helicopters.
The first flight of the NH90 Sea Tiger is scheduled for November 30th at Airbus Helicopters in Donauwörth.
