Royal Thai Air Force Bangkok National Aviation Museum DMK May 2024

Post by VH3D »

Hi,

While in Bangkok, I had to revisit RTAF museum by Don Mueang airport. Last time I was there around 2015, and since then they've added 52 new airplanes. I've photographed almost everything (missed couple of helicopters and smaller trainers). My highlight and main motivation for the visit was recent addition of RTAF HS748

They close the museum for public and religious holidays. I actually planned on going there on May 1st but then found out it was Labor Day so I've waited one day to visit.

Don't always believe everything you read on the internet. If you have the opportunity, check the c/n plates by yourself.
F.16-020/18 clearly has the c/n 021

Actually I've got the cn from Planebase. There is actually a remark stating that the plate reads 021 which is incorrect, and that the correct cn is 020. So there was some investigation going on about this airframe already.

Also from Steve Ozel's Thai Aviation page you can see the same note regarding this aircraft.

CT/4A RR.020 / ‘20’ / ‘60442’ F.16-020/18 ZK-DTT (020) / 021* mfg 05Sep74 (also reported by NZAI as ff date); dd 02Nov74;
transferred from FTS to 604 Sqdn early 2003 (f/n Mar03); code
‘60442’ (Dec08 thro’ Aug18); last flight 30Aug18; to RTAF Museum
Sep18; [should be c/n 020 based on NZAI data, but dataplate shows
c/n 021; see F16-024/18]

Yes, I know Steve Darke's website and I'm in contact with him.
But I would trust a c/n plate in an airplane more than Planebase website or other databases. Of course, errors can happen on a c/n plates.

The c/n doesn't come from Planebase nor from any other websites. The data with c/n 20 comes from the manufacturer's information.
So yes, the plate is most likely wrong.
