As Chinese carriers continue their expansion,
European airlines are exiting completely,
with Russian airspace closure and weakening demand contributing to tough market conditions.
While SAS and LOT only announced their suspensions today,
they join an existing list of European airlines
that have axed services either completely or partially to China. This includes:
Lufthansa (LH): Frankfurt (FRA) to Beijing (PEK) gone as of this winter season. It maintains services from Munich (MUC), though, as well as flights from both German hubs to Shanghai (PVG).
British Airways (BA): flights between London Heathrow (LHR) Beijing Daxing Airport (PKX) are suspended as of this winter. Services to PVG will continue, however.
Virgin Atlantic (VS): Virgin Atlantic’s flights from LHR to PVG will also be axed as from the end of October 2024. The last outbound flight is on October 25. This is VS’ only flight to China.
