Dobbins ARB, GA (KMGE/MGE) MIL - 2024

Post by Piet Luijken »

I visited Dobbins ARB between 0930lt and 1300lt on wednesday 1 may 2024.
Mostly I was at the cemetery to take pictures of the flying Hercules(92-0551 as COBB51 doing touch and goes between 1030lt and 1230lt), but I also visited the museum and I drove up the Richardson Road to spot the aircraft parked at LMTAS and the US Army parking.

Tx for this info. I will amend log if needed. There are no outside differences between L and v variants?

The V has a slightly different aerial fit, but nothing extremely obvious if you're having a quick look.

Thanks Andy, now I see the three GPS antennas on top of the tail boom. Quite distinct! Which figures with the advanced GPS based cockpit.

LOG 24 June 2024
Nice airbase with some exotic aircraft at LMTAS, if you are lucky. In my case two Kiwi C-130Js. Also lucky because initially I did not notice the second Kiwi, which was parked in the shed, until I took a leak before leaving :-). The USAF and USMC C-130Js are also brand new, both not yet in any database. I think the USAF one is a new MC-130J (there are 9 ordered in FY22). But if anyone can confirm...The ArNG Blackhawks are quite easy to read. 11 were present, all parked at the tarmac. Two went out for a flight. I spent a few hours in the apprach on the east side, but apart from the USMC Herk and the two Blackhawks, nothing happened. I only saw two C-130 of the local AFRC present on the tarmac. No flying though. So overall a nice airbase to visit for a quick hit and run.

Lockheed Martin/LMTAS
NZ7012, NZ7013 C-130J-30 Royal New Zealand air Force
170284/KB-0284 KC-130J USMC (also flying)
25989 MC-130J (?) USAF - dark color scheme with a small light serial as with MC-130/HC-130s - so I guess it’s a MC-130J

700th AS AFRC
93-1036 C-130H

UH-60A A/1-171st AVN GA ArNG
(89-)26169

UH-60L A/1-171st AVN GA ArNG

Nice list. Did you read off the '2' from 25989?

Thanks

Yes, so I assume it is FY 22. It had the 5 digits on the tail

Great, thanks. If it was a line of 5 digits the same size then definitely an MC-130J 👍

One aircraft I forgot to query was the ID of the C5 fuselage at 33.91790501042016, -84.51517303099315. Any ideas?

C-5 test article X999. It's sat there for over 30 years.
