Turkey is currently facing a fighter gap as it waits for its planned 5th generation KAAN fighter to come online in 2030.
Turkey secured 40 Eurofighter Typhoons with Germany’s approval
On Nov 13, 2024

Turkey has received Germany’s green light for the acquisition of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon jets,
a development recently confirmed by Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler
in an interview with Turkish news outlet TV100.

Güler acknowledged the critical roles
Italy, the United Kingdom, and Spain played
in influencing Germany’s decision to approve the deal.
For Turkey, this acquisition serves not only as a means to modernize its air force
but also as a strategic response to its exclusion from the F-35 program.

Turkey had invested substantially in the F-35 project
and had been slated to receive the advanced stealth fighter
until its procurement of the Russian S-400 air defense system
led to U.S. sanctions and subsequent expulsion from the F-35 program.
