Today 15-2-2025 I visited Schiphol Airport.
Noted:
Merlin HC4A ZJ995/AD
Merlin HC4A ZK001/AF Palm tree in tail, 846NAS
Merlin HC4 ZJ119/C
846 Naval Air Squadron does have the Palm tree as an emblem concerning the involvement in Borneo the early sixties.
Is this correct or is this an emblem of 845NAS?
As an bonus the C-FCGE DHC8 of the Coast Guard (Kustwacht in Dutch..) took off, this is ex RCAF CC-142 142801.
Next stop was the Aviation Hobby shop to photograph the aircraft that are on display inside the building:
C-47A50-DL 42-24211 cockpit only
W1748/48 TS11 Former Indian Air Force
The Dakota has c/n 10073 was delivered on 21 august 1943 by Douglas to the US Army Air Force with serail: 42-24211 on April 4th 1944 it was assigned to the 88th Troop Carrier Squadron of the 9th Air Force and it was send to the European Front. 42-24211 was used from liberated bases in Holland and Belgium.
After the Second World War the Dakota was sold in France to the CATA company and was registered F-BEFA with name”Ville de Bone”. Later the aircraft flew for Aigle Azur in 1950 and for Air Atlas in Maroc in 1951. In 1957 she became CN-CCL with Royal Air Maroc and flew until 1968.
After 1968 she came in service with the Royal Moroccan Air Force and got strangely enough registration “20669”, this was the contract number of the Dakota from the Douglas factory in Long Beach. She was in service until 1978. After her service she got registration: N54607 and she was flow to the UK, there she got a camo paint job and nickname ”Maggie May”. 1995 she was scrapped at Exeter Airport and the cockpit is now on display at the Aviation Hobby Shop.
Does anybody has the correct in service date with the Royal Moroccan Air Force?
Any corrections or additions are welcome!
Greetz,
