Just hit the wire. KLM has ordered 7 B737-700s from Boeing, which confirms some rumours that I'd heard circulating.
They have also converted a current order for B737-800s to -700s for a total of 10 aircraft.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Orders Seven 737-700s.

LE BOURGET, France, June 20, 2007 -- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines of the AIR FRANCE-KLM Group and Boeing [NYSE: BA]
announced an order for seven 737-700s today at the Paris Air Show. This is KLM's first order for the 737-700.
It already operates 737-800s. The Amsterdam-based airline also converted three previous orders for 737-800s to 737-700s.

Not sure is this is the correct place to ask, but how many of those 73NG's going to KLM are meant for classic replacement, and/or how many are actually expansion aircraft?

thats not to say,. the current ordered NG's are not enough to replace the classics one on one.
if the 737 fleet will expand that can be to replace fokker 100's, which would mean a growth of ASK's but not an growth of aircraft and cockpit seats.
or it could be real growth.

i'm afread that at this point that can only be judged after the replacement.

Also a little bit off topic , but what gates are they gonna use? The 737NG is to big for the gates inside the "stemvork"?

Off topic reply: Gates at 'C', 'D', 'E' and perhaps even 'B'.....

I assume KLM ops have thought about this also....

the number of gates in the stemvork has decreased since the new bagage thing i think and is very much used for fokker 50's and other stuff.

ofcourse the new NG's will replace -300's and -400's but the question was if this will be on a one to one basis. or if their is growth incorporated.

ASK: available seat kilometers.
if you replace a F100 with an 737-700 the amount of Aircraft will remain the same but the available seats will grow.

SEATTLE, July 03, 2007 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] has delivered a second Next-Generation 737-800 to leasing
company Babcock & Brown for lease to transavia.com, the new Orly, France-based low-fare carrier
owned jointly by Dutch airline Transavia and French airline Air France, bringing the number of 737-800s in their fleet to four.



Boeing previously delivered a 737-800 to Babcock & Brown for lease by transavia.com in May.
Transavia.com plans to add three additional 737-800s in 2008 and two in 2009. The 737-800s are
configured in a 186-seat, all-economy layout.

According to this thread at airliners.net KLC will receive it's first E190 this year. It was supposed to go to Regional but is relocated to KLC. It should be the replacement for OFE.

I've read the mentioned thread and the following caught my attention:

As for Cityhopper, we will be flying the Fokker 70/100 till 2013. Until then the oldest 15 Fokker 100s will leave the fleet and will be replaced by the five Fokker 70s that are currently flying with Air France Regional and with 10 "other aircraft". These "other" aircraft will either be 10 younger Fokker 100s, 10 Embraer 190s or 10 CRJ1000s. Expect a decision about this subject within a month. If you want to put your money to an option, I would advise you to take option 2...

and.....

For KLC it will be the E-190 replacing the F100. First batch of 10 will start to be introduced starting in October 2008, the first aicraft planned to be replaced is PH-OFE if i remember correctly and they are receiving the first 3 from Air Regional orders wich will be converted to KLC orders.

With an additional statement that it will be announced officially in August.

So we can expect the E190 to replace the Fokker 100 and the Dash 8 to replace the Fokker 50.....

Personally i do like the E190 series (wonder if KLC will order a mix 170/190) but lets wait for the official announcement next month...
