Forum rules
This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum.
Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).
Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.
This week a LIVE firing exercise was taking place at the Drawsko Pomorskie Range. Aim of the exercise was to get rid of obsolete H-25 and H-29 Air to Ground missiles. At Powidz 2 Su-22s were involved in this exercise shooting 6 H-25s and 2 H-29s. The latter is the biggest missile in the Polish Air Force! The H-29 was not used over 10 years by the Polish Air Force. It weights over 650kg and can penetrate 3meters of soil and 2meters of concreed.
Obviously you saw a flight at Swidwin with LIVE H-29s aswell. We were told at Powidz that these AGMs were not fired in the 10 years. This info came actually from 2 sources; Powidz and a former Su-22 pilot at Poznan.
Nice photo though!
Powidz is about to end it Fitter activities in the next couple of weeks. Aircraft to be transferred to Swidwin. On average about 3 Su-22s fly operational from Powidz.
A small correction, I was in Poland in August instead of July (6+7 at Swidwin, 9+10 at Powidz). We were told that there were only 2 flying weeks left. During our visit there were 16 Fitters present and we saw 3 Su-22's in flight (including a recce Fitter).
During our visit last week it was stated that the Fitters would move out of Powidz in the next couple of weeks. It is a pitty to hear that they already move this week........again one squadron of Fitters down after 39 and 6 ELT..Any idea how many Sukhoi's will be handed over to Swidwin? Must be less then 10.
During our visit we noted two Fitters at the flightline (single/dual), four were in the small maintenance hangar and four within the shelterarea (all stored (2x single/2x dual)
According to our guide some Fitters are stored inside the shelters. I don't have a clue how many will move to Swidwin.
Something went seriously wrong with LIVE firing the H-25/29 during the weekend. Just been informed by a former Su-22 pilot that during the weekend sorties to the Drawsko Pomorskie one missile escaped from the range and destroyed a civilian house. There is big fuzz about it in polish media at the moment.
