A7-HJJ at Brussels

Friday 19th October:
On our way to back from Florennes, we drove past Brussels. There we saw a A330-200, marked as Qatar Aiways, serial A7-HJJ. This plane had a strange 'lump' on it's back. Therefor we searched the internet, but we can't deside if this plane is a civil, gouvernment or military one. Some sites say Amiri Flight, others say civil. Can anyone tell us more about this one?

Airbus 330 A7-HJJ is listed in the World Airforces Directory at the government section of Qatar.
So it,s up to you if it,s a good one or not.

Why isn't this no in the Scramble Database?

I'm still not convinced.

Well the word AIRWAYS in Qatar AIRWAYS spoils it all for me !

Yeah right... as if most military spotters would not make a picture of all the Russian Air Force hardware, because they sport "Aeroflot" titles...

Just like the LZ-OOI (Lima Zulu Oscar Oscar India). Civilian registration, but operated by Bulgarian Government. Actually, if you look at the registration on the aircraft itself, it really looks like it says: LZ-001. (Lima Zulu zero zero one)

I "do" civilian as well as military and I'm getting a bit sick of all these so-called "self-annoying rules" some military spotters try to enforce on themselves.
If you think you should make a picture, make it. If you don't feel like it, leave it... How hard can that be?
But don't fuss around later if you maybe should have made it after all, because it was military after all...

This is my personal opinion and I don't need to discuss this, because:
1) this is the wrong topic

2) no one seems to be able to change some-one else's mind whatever you do or say...

Bottomline: decide for yourself what you like to do!

Actually, he does, methinks. Obviously, I fully agree with that bottom line.

Andel, perhaps someone here is willing to process your complaint about the major part of the Amiri fleet being operated in Airways livery..?

Callsign during departure was AMIRY7 don't know if this is the callsign for the "airways" or "government" flights.

QAF, callsign 'Amiri', is published by ICAO for the Qatar Amiri Flight
Qatar Airways Company is QTR, callsign 'Qatari'.

I see a self-induced problem here for those spotting mil only. The mil fans like to see governmental aircraft as military in order to have them count but personally I am convinced this is a civil plane. It has a civil registration and civil livery with airline titles. It is operated on behalf of the royal family, which is not the same thing as government and certainly not military for just that reason. Not that I care, btw.

Finally, if I understand correctly which 'lump' you mean Mike: all Qatari A330s have that, including regular pax.

Actually you are right about this. To compare: What if HRH Willem Alexander travels with a KLM airliner. This doesn't make it a Government aircraft. I think it's the same with the Qatar aircraft. It even flies in civil livery!

So I'm still convienced it's a 100% civil aircraft.

or when POTUS (president of the united states) uses a Northwest A330 as transport to Europe. The callsign would also be Air Force 1.

For example some Northwest 747 aircraft do also fly around with the REACH callsign.

Difference here is that this particular A330 does not fly on commercial routes. It is only used for government officials... Like the Qatari Emir...

Yes ,also more US civil airlines fly regualr with Reach-callsigns to Mildenhall/Ramstein when they fly for USAF-duties.

Let me put it this way: if this plane does not fit in any category you do or do not spot, then maybe those categories need adjustment.
