What should be wrong with these FY81 serials? The reported FMS serials are exactly the ones that were assigned many years ago. About 169 members of the 110th Fighter Wing of the Battle Creek Air National Guard landed late Tuesday at W.K. Kellogg airport after two months in Afghanistan.
The plane carrying the unit touched down about 9:55 p.m. as families cheered and waved American flags.
Members of the guard base were on the tarmac in the cold night air as the guard members streamed off the plane.
Col. Rodger Seidel, commander of the 100th [They mean the 110th - J.J.], and Maj. Gen. Thomas G. Cutler, adjutant general of the Michigan National Guard, also greeted the group.
The troops were among 220 members from the base who were deployed two months ago to Operation Iraqi Freedom, splitting a 120-day deployment with a Maryland guard unit from Baltimore.
Maj. Robert DeCoster, spokesman for the 110th, said about 25 of the deployed guard members already returned and the remainder, who are flying support for a half-dozen A-10 attack planes, which must make several refueling stops, will be back with the planes in Battle Creek in the next two or three days.
Although the unit left in October for Iraq, they were moved after only a week to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
"They had to pack up all their equipment, personal gear and the A-10s and relocate to a different base in Afghanistan due to unplanned change in mission requirement," DeCoster said.
During their tour they flew more than 500 missions including close air support, counter insurgency attacks and threat deterrence.
"The show of force was a critical part of what they did," DeCoster said. "An A-10 can be pretty intimidating."
The deployment was the first for the 110th since 2004.

The first reservation was a northern track, anything going to LEMO on this
track would a hundred of miles out...
I had an inkling this was for Spang based F-16s which were in NE USA at the
time, i assume waiting to come home. MIMKU is an Oceanic Gate entry into
Scotland.
The second ALTRV was i believe for B-1Bs.
They have for the past five flights (rotation) been using this route with
the KC-135s using the DINIM to TAKAS route on the way home rather than the
more southern Atlantic track off the coast of Santiago in Spain.
B-1Bs should have used the callsign RAMA.
Neither of the ALTRV's came about and were cancelled. Only to be revived
again for the next two days and again cancelled for the second and third
time. Since then, neither have been reactivated.
