Off topic: Looking for scanner

I dont know if this is the right forum to drop this question, but I am looking for a good scanner I am thinking about buying a Icom Ic-R20 any experience with it?? It is a quite expensive one, and want to know if it is any good.

I am an happy owner of the good old Yupiteru 7100. A great product but sometimes I'd wish there were easier ways of getting all the freqs in. Are there any scanner available who are equipped with a USB interface which enables the user to up/download freqs easily?

HERE you can read a review of the UBC3500XLT, written bij Mark Schutte.
It's not about milair mostly, but gives an impression.
The Yupi is very outdated, no PC programming, no close call etc.

Outdated yes, but still one of the best receivers. Remember the R-535 Spine? Outdated, only 60 channels, Design from the sixties but what a peformance!!!!

Thanx spine24. Looks good! The author states that the computer stuff doesn't work with an iMac (which I use), but I can run Windows on it too (long live Parallels and BootCamp) so that shoul'dn't be a big problem

I have both the Yupi and the Icom R20.

positive points for the Icom:
- dual band scanning
- programmable via computer ++++

negative points for the Icom:
- manual programming of a frequency is difficult...
- configuration is not easy
- slower than the yupi in picking up signals

Nope! USC-230: 29-54 / 108-174 / 406-512 / 806-956 MHz

You need 225-400 mHz. It only covers the mil a/a freq range: 138-145 mHz.

Moreover I'm quite convinced that this scanner in the mentioned range works only in FM and not in AM (which is esential for aviation). But to be sure - check it by yourself please.
Also, according to radioreference.com, it doesn't support 8.33 kHz step.

It supports mainly a/g communications, but definitely not the type of communications you want to hear. If you can afford it buy the Uniden Bearcat 3500XLT which covers almost all military coms.
