Struggling with the numbers

Post by Ergo01 »

Conversion from analogue to digital sometimes seems to be an uphill battle. Thanks Henk for the introduction and support, but now I'm on my own.
Skywarriors were present at Soesterberg in fall, winter 1975/1976. So it stretches the subject of the thread, but this won't hurt anyone I hope. There's more to come, but his requires patience from you and hard work for me.
The sun does not always shine, as illustrated by the image of the A7. SD's were on deployment in Europe and on fridays weekend visits were possible. I was lucky this time. This was the 80-ties I think, the slides bears no date.

If this picture was taken during landing it was on the same day as the Klu open dag at Twente (Saturday) (if I remember well) this was in the early 90's.

The oldest slides I could find, taken in 1978. Due to the lack of money, standard "ammo" in those days was black & white film, but sometimes I could afford to load my stone age Russian Zenith camera with slides.

Although by far not as spectacular as the previous photo's I found this picture of a BT F-4E in my collection, which I bought a long time ago and so to see has been taken at Soesterberg as well.

Perfect camouflage

Post by Ergo01 »

ILS system checks nowadays are done by civilian companies. Some time ago (for some readers this was before you were born) checks were done by military a/c. For some reason this Sabreliner was camouflaged, to be protected against the EHSB background.

Camouflage

Post by Ergo01 »

During the late 70-ties, early 80-ties there were C-23 Sherpas in service with USAFE. These were used used for mail transport, but to transport engines as well. Not a big success, but -mind you, different- C-23s are of of good use in Asia nowadays.
The Sherpas were from two series, each carried the name of a USAFE base. This is "Soesterberg". And camouflaged pretty well against whatever enemies round that time!

Quality is rather poor, but interesting visitors for Soesterberg anyway:

MM54507/61-55 MB339A 61 BA

(Departure after weekendstop)

I always enjoyed these kind of visitors very much! 8)

Generations

Post by Ergo01 »

Hi Ernesto,
Even those old Italians can be improved quite well, as I learned. For a younger generation: this is an Italian F104G (as can be recognized by the sound of the engines). It is carrying an Orpheus photo pod (NL product from a long time back!!). Soesterberg late 70-ties.
We both have sons that are or will be planespotters.
Eat your heart out or what's left of it, boys.

Lechfeld visitors

Post by Ergo01 »

December 1975 was a good month for visitors. JB32 Starfighters were a rare sight in those days.
There's more to come
