Kabinet:Twente nog drie jaar open

***************************************
` Het kabinet wil vliegveld Twente nog
minstens drie jaar openhouden voor
commerciële vluchten.Het kabinet komt
daarmee tegemoet aan een wens van de
Tweede Kamer.Die wil Twente openhouden
voor chartervluchten.

Het is nog onduidelijk wat er op lange
termijn gebeurt met het voormalige
militaire vliegveld.Het consortium dat
Twente nu exploiteert wil daar nog wel
een paar jaar mee doorgaan, maar er
worden ook andere gegadigden gezocht.

Het Rijk,de provincie Overijssel en de
gemeente Enschede werken aan een plan
voor het terrein. In 2010 moet blijken
of het vliegveld daarna open blijft.

For our non dutch readers:

The dutch government has decided to keep the former military airbase Twente open for at least another 3 years for commercial airtraffic. For the time being a consortium of partners (State, province of Overijssel and the communitie of Enschede) are working on a plan for the airfield. In 2010 it will be decided what will happen to EHTW.

One should question if this might be a wise move, as in The Netherlands there is the so called "vliegtax".
Being so close to the German border it seems reasonable that Dutch tourists will depart from German airports.

I think you have a point there. But the great disadvantage for German airfields is the fact that you have to pay for parking your car and you have to drive at least one hour to the closest airfield (i.e. FMO).
Yoy must check in 2 hours in advance. For Twenthe it's only one hour. And as I experienced right now is that German Touroperators/Airlines can easily book you to another airfield in Germany further away and there is nothing you can do about it. In my case from Dusseldorf to Koln/Bonn. :?
