I would have loved to upload some pictures but I can't either... started taking photographs at EHEH too late (...!), around 1978. However, this topic brings back fond memories of staying up late as a young boy and watching the Streaks from my bedroom window as they returned from nightflying, lighting up my room with their landing lights when turning finals...

Please guys, keep them coming... and what about the T-Birds of the BaseFlight?

Interesting shot by the way of the P-180 at SSB. It appears to be fitted with only one of the smaller pylon tanks (they had fins, the large ones didn't) instead of two; if I remember correctly that was the (dummy) "nuclear strike" configuration for the Streak.

as far as i know P-180 was one of the Streaks carrying out
target-towing duties at Leeuwarden , hence the smaller pylon-tanks ;
the strike configuration of the Streak dates back to the early and mid-sixties,when sometimes only one pylon-tank was carried to make space for the "nuclear"-dummy bomb under the other wing ; i myself saw

Some Streaks? In the sixties you could see a lot of movements on one day, even on a Saturdaymorning!
Both 314 and 315 Sqn. could be flying intensively on a day. No retrenchments of the Dept of Defense like nowadays.

(but some blasé people did say indeed: hey just another Streak; but that is of all times)

You are right of course : 40 Streaks flying on one day were no exception, as we know, Rob!
Shortly after small or extensive overhauls you often could see the F-84s test-flying without their usual underwing-fueltanks. P-214 and P-220 are two examples in that configuration ,the latter taken at Eindhoven on September 10 , 1968

this picture shows four thunderstreaks of the Rascals demo-team (314 squadron) performing at Volkel on June 19th , 1970 ;
always keep in mind while watching these pics. that the life of a military aircraft spotter was far from easy in those days : phototography was strictly forbidden and Air Force Security Guard personnel with impressive white helmets , -such as the one on the previous page -maintained a close look-out for us and if you were caught and taken to the Military Police you lost your film and sometimes even worse : your camera !
So realize that we do you a great big favour by publishing these nice shots here and today!

Hans, I think it's about time for some fine "Whiskey Four 67" pics, don't you? I too will look for some to scan, from my negatives. Yours to come also? I will also scan some nice 'official' photographs from the Dutch Dept. of Defense and Welschap airbase.
