Yes, there are such pics. I am sure Hans has some, I will have to take a look in my collection negatives.

Waiting for your father's Streakphoto's!

Hans,

Thanks, it is the most strange instructionseat I ever saw. I would like to know what's going on in the mind of the instructor, when he took place in this seat.

XF-84H Thunderscreech

Post by Gerard »

If the header is changed, to mention both the Thunderstreak and the Thunderflash. Maybe the Thunderscreech needs to be mentioned too?

I remember seeing that XF-84H (s/n 51-17059) in Bakersfield, CA in Feb96 (according to the Scramble-DB this is now in Wright-Patterson).
Google it and have a look, it is a real weirdo....... a Thunderstreak with propellor and T-tail! Unfortunately I was not able to take a pic that time and I did not find any good pictures on the web.
Anybody with a nice picture?

Thanks,
Gerard

Looks to me that the sunlight is reflecting of the back of the aircraft directly behind the canopy. There's no backseat ...
Look closely in the text of the link:

Like the XF-84H though.

keep up the fabulous historic pics people :!:

52-06867 should be: 52-6867
this is a Republic F-84F-50-RE Thunderstreak (serials 52-6813/6907)

I read somewhere that not only pilots were learning taxiing that way but also the crewchiefs! They had, in case of some emergency, to taxi the plane to a safer location.

Hi guys,

What a great topic this is. Just like me, many photographers can only dream of having seen this type fly. But in the late 60's I could barely walk and talk, so forget about handling a camera.

To me personally the sight of an operational F-84 is “super vet”, but am I alone when I say that it’s a very ugly aircraft in design? The big fuel tanks give it some more body, but without it it’s just a skinny ugly aircraft to me…..

Ready to take some serious flaming….

Cheers,
Iwan

PS: Keep the great ‘Streak’ shots coming, as I love to dream while looking at them.

I know it's just a matter of taste, but I totally disagree  I do like the Streak; actually I think it is one of the most beautiful jet fighters built (together with the Hunter and F-5). For this probably a lot of people are willing to shoot me, but I like it much more than an F-104......
Well, as said, there is no accounting for taste as the Brits say :P

some good old thunderstreak and thunderflash stuff

Post by bingo20 »

Opinions may differ , but fact is , that this unique, robust machine will always remain in my memory . It was always impressive to watch, especially during line-up for take-off when they stood thundering for minutes while full power was given on the brakes ; we always thought that the 2 kilometer stretch of runway at Eindhoven was too short to get them airborne with their heavy loads ! No afterburners could be used ,so it was a great skill of the pilots for whom i still have enormous admiration.
Be patient , there are more photos to come ! :!:
