Suggestion for subject topic

Hello all,

might it be an idea to mention the weekday in the subject of a topic so everybody knows in a glance not only the date but also the day, e.g. EHAM MON 19-05-2008. EHAM TUE 20-05-2008 etc?.

No, rather not. This will again be something to monitor and there are some seconds a day when people will have to live through not getting every bit of info presented without even turning their head.

With due respect, Erik, it's easy to dismiss this as a lazy request, but I think it's an good idea. I would certainly appreciate if the days of the week were mentioned by whoever starts a topic for a certain day.

It would quite a prevent mis-postings in the wrong thread and associated confusion, so I think it would in fact make life easier for the moderators.

Even better would be 'Mon, 19 May' as people quite often post in a thread for the wrong months, too. And this would avoid confusion for international visitors, too.

In the threads themselves, the format of the automatically generated dates of posting is 'Mon, 19 May' for a reason. It's just human friendly.

The whole idea stands or falls with the person not forgetting to insert the day of the week while making a new topic...
I can imagine moderators rather do other things than correcting topic names to include the correct day in them...

I think it's a better idea do arrange something with the normal topics and the phototopics

It often happens that when I click on the frontpage I come into the photoforum of that day (which doesnt bother me..)

@ Fogg: Not so much lazy, more looking for an external solution to any issue encountered, even when the internal solution is very simple. I appreciate your view, but my view is that posting in the wrong thread is the result of not paying attention - some way or the other. I am very reluctant to try and avoid that by introducing another piece of 'procedure' for users to follow and mods to control. IMHO there is nothing unclear about 'EHAM 20-05-2008' (apart from the fact that indeed US citizens have been tought the strange habit of placing the day between the month and the year)... Moreover, this form was the result of asking for users' opinions about 1,5 years ago.

): it becomes more and more clear to me that topic names without the related forum can be confusing. I never have this confusion as I never enter the forum through the Scramble frontpage, or RSS, but many users do. What I would rather see is a display of the concerned forum in lists of updated topics, than 'pollute' topic titles with info that is obsolete when browsing a forum. Perhaps Hans can shine a light on this at some time (possibilities of phpBB).

Yes i know why, so i hope you don't mind a reply in this discussion....

I don't know if i'm the only one using RSS, but it's very 'confusing' to click on a topic, assuming to see AMS movements but getting photo's.

That's the reason i asked to include the word 'photo' or 'phototopic' as some already do. I don't think it 'pollutes' a topic, it makes it more clear for the few who use RSS what's the content of that topic.

But it's just my 5 eurocents and i'll go with the flow, even if that means swimming against the current....

Of course not, I pulled you into it! As said, I understand the problem with RSS and surfing via the frontpage, but I would rather have a solution there than in many topic titles on several forums.

It all depends on your browser I think. In Apple Safari (at least on the Mac), the built-in RSS reader automatically states in which forum a message is posted:
