What was the name of speaker for two day's at Leeuwarden
He does this thing every year, but I don't know his name
He did it very good and in a funny way of telling us what to expect.
Is it possible to get his E-mail adres?
So not all spotters disliked the commentary by Jan Cocheret and Leo van der Goot...
Leo was also there during the Leeuwarden 2006 show, the last edition with a(n) (ex) military pilot behind the mike, i.e. Lex Schoenmaker.
Jan Cocheret had his "KLu-debut" only last year at Volkel.
Leo van der goot started his career as ouwehoer (dj) in the early seventies at Radio Noordzee International from the Mebo II at the Northsea.
So quite a few years of experience
Absolutely not! We were there both days with some friends and had a blast. Ok, there were mistakes but even ex-military pilots can make mistakes in names etc We were admiring how they able to go and on and on, keep it light yet informative when necessary.
Like the QRA flying currently from Gilze Rijen (eh dutch mill, we have a small problem, the runway is gone.................... )
Although, I wouldn't mind fighters returning to Gilze when the runway is done.
Well, the Belgian display pilot was suddenly different (very different even, a woman!) and from a different squadron. None of the 'regular' people there will notice this though, so what does it matter, really?
One is an ex Veronica DJ (see http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_van_der_Goot" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) , the other is a former actor/comedian who now flies Emirates 777s as a captain.
Leo is also behind the Skybound series of documentaries (see http://www.emsfilms.com/skybound/dvd.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) supported by amongst others Jan C.
Not complete nitwits I'd say. The general public ( or at least 95 percent of the visitors) wouldn't notice much of their mistakes anyway!
The "Open Dagen" are not specifically organised for spotters...
On the topic of the speaker/commentary duo Jan C. and Leo v.d. G. ...
I think they are now as controversial as the infamous Jerry Mead of past Flying Legends shows.
Well, what these three people have in common is this: they will not send you to sleep!
Bernard Chabbert at Duxford in 2006 really tested my ability to stay alert. Sean Maffett didn't do much better last year (yes, him of RIAT, the music at Fairford is needed in order to stay awake during quiet moments)...
Did anyone see how the general public reacted on the commentary? The people/day tourists/locals around me listened intently...
Both Leo vd. Goot and Jan Cocheret are real aviation enthusiasts; Leo used to be a spotter (recently went on a spotting trip to the US and Canada with a bunch of other die-hard spotters of about the same age ) and is indeed the creator of the Skybound-series on Dutch tv. Jan Cocheret also is a journalist for Piloot & Vliegtuig and the pilot that flew Aviodrome's DC-2 from the US to the Netherlands. Their common problem is that sometimes, "their mouth is faster than their brain". I don't mind, as long as both parts of their body aren't too much out of sync... they managed to keep the general public both informed and entertained, and that's quite an achievement.
First and most important to me: fire the current commentators and bring back the old guys. Yes, I know I am a bit repetative and predujice, but I listened to them without predujice this time! They irritated the hell out of me with their so called funny remarks, stupid jokes and a lot of incorrect information. I know a lot of visitors have the same opinion, having listened to all the remarks I heard in the vicinity of the spot I was watching the show from during both days.
Reply to that: Have to agree on that, the old guys were way better... at one point I put in my earplugs as far as they could go.... The old guys had class.
I agree with the mentioned reply!
Sadly, looks like the KLu joines the "If you can't dazzle them with knowledge, dazzle them with bullsh*t"-mentality of SBS6 and former Veronica-DJ's, being hopefull this will attract the major public and new employees. Can't help but believing this mentality and way of presenting don't match the ways of the KLu. If it does, I doubt this will attract more employees in the long run... But hey, it's up to them. I still have my earplugs ...
