Arrived Sydney in the afternoon of 14Jul. Didn't know the Pope was visiting Sydney as well (he arrived at Richmond AFB the day before) so it was hard to get a place to sleep with over 180.000 people coming over for World Youth Day as well..
Was lucky the Formula 1 on the airport had some rooms over and after installing into spacious room # 623 with really good views over the GA and runway 25 I wrote these down till darkness fell:

Today a full day of spotting from the observation deck on top of the international terminal. All runways can be seen although views to RW34R/L are a bit obstructed by buildings. The observation deck is the best place as they can change runways. If the wind is low, they use RW34R/L for landing and take-off till 11.45lt in the morning. Then landings will be on RW25 and take off from RW16L/R. At 14.45lt they change to landings and take-offs at 16L/R. Here are the results, I left out the Qantas/Jetstar/Virgin Blue and Rex as they fly here a lot..:

T7, the best place to stay in my opinion is at the tower. From here you can read and photgraph all 3 runways in all directions till around noon, after that the sun crosses the 2 main runways. So for photography you have find yourself a spot or at the beach or at the observation deck (which is terrible in my opinion

Hi Marco,

I know but as I'm more into collecting numbers, I preferred the deck. It is not the best place but there is shelter in case of rain (or sun), screens with departures and you can get a big cold beer a few meters downstairs at the Italian Cafe..
