That's an interesting way to use an embassy

You have tried museum@haf.gr and got no reply? Hmmm... I will let them know.
Meanwhile you can also FAX them at (+30) 210 8195275.

Greetings

Archangel Open days Greece

Post by nellis6 »

Thinking of making a 3-4 day trip to Greece in November for the above. Has anyone experience of these in terms of good one's/bad one's etc.

Which bases tend to have the most/least visible ?

I presume places like Kalamata are good as most aircraft are kept outside, but any help appreciated

Kalamata is not open in November. See the topic in the Airshow section. They are doing it in September.

And I actually meant to say Tanagra is not open in November. Sorry for that big mistake, just messed up all the a in the name of their bases.

Archangel Open Days

Air show is at Tanagra only in September. In November ALL bases are open but not for airshow, only static displays.

Hi Mike,

About the opendays in November.
Normaly there is a smal static display with around 10 aircraft at the static.
Bases like Kalamata,Araxos Andravida etc. are open but dont expect to much from it.
When we where there there was no flying activity for the openhouse.
But this is normal at the opendays in November.
About Kalamata when we where there in 2005 many of the based T-2's and T-6's where parked outside.
When we visited Kalamata again in 2006 still lots of aircraft parked outside.
But they where bussy with working on new hangars and other facilitys.
They where building new hangars in the T-2 area so i presume that they will be used by the T-2's.
But i can not confirm this as when we where there the work on the new hangars was just started.
I dont know if you also will visit some bases from the outside if you will be careful.
As reading off serial numbers and taking pictures is still forbiden at military instalations in Greece

Best regards

Any idea is the train connection from Larissa station working still to Tanagra station...? It was a clever way to travel to Arcangel 2005 in 2005.

Tanagra access info

Post by papagio »

There will not be any special trains like last time. You can get a shuttle bus ride from downtown Athens (260 Liosion Str) directly to the airport from 0700 to 1100 and back from 1400 to 1800. Shuttle buses will leave evry 15 minutes.

As far as the November Open Day is concerned, all bases will be open with static displays. Tanagra will be the only open base for the September weekend. 8)

We are going there (group of 8 people) by cars. Anyone knows if there are any accommodations near by?
