ImageThis is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum.
Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post.
In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.).

Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so.

Nice shots you guys! Can't wait to get there myself next year! :onfire:

Maybe a bit off topic, but any chance of getting decent shots with the Canon 100-400mm connected to a 1.6x enlargement factor Canon camera, or is 500mm + extender an absolute must for both Cheyenne and Speedway?!

Sjoerd,

I used 500mm (+1.4 ext) most of the times during takeoffs over cheyenne (for aircraft using the far runway). My camera has a crop of 1.3, if you have a 600 - 900 mm analog you should do fine.
By the way, if they land over cheyenne a 100-400 mm is just what you need.

Do you perhaps have some more info about your trip. Hints/tips, do´s dont´s etc?
So you say 400mm is the minimum amount of mm´s to take with you?

Will be living in Phoenix AZ next year for 6 months and am planning a (few) visit(s) to Nellis.

Thermal,

Your lensrange depends on where you are standing. Takeoffs over cheyenne are between 600 - 1000 analog mm(you have to move around a bit depending which runway they are using). While landingshots overhere are about 400-500 analog mm for the first runway and about 250 - 400 mm for the second (you have to move to another place for about 500 meters down the road)

At North Las Vegas Boulevard (speedway) you have lots of opertunities, Starting at gate 1 for sharp turning navy hornets and prowlers up to gates 3 - 5 for airforce stuff. Gate 8/9 will be good for takeoffs (special for local stuff banking towards the ranges) and planes making a long circuit.

Planes using the far runway need a 1000mm+ lensrange The sun will start to move to your back after 13.00. Same for Cheyenne. The best shots can be made in the late afternoon.

Here are some more shots taken at gate 4 (± 100 meters) using a 500 mm lens +1.4ext on a 1.3 sensor camera at ±18.00 pm.
