Heraklion (LGIR/HER) - 2008

Post by DJMikey »

Yesterday, 31st of August, I spotted a Greek AB212 or AB205 (?) on the ramp of Heraklion. I know this one is spotterd before as, as it is permanently stationed there for SAR-duties. But, I wasn't able to read the serial.
Hopefully this chopper isn't swapped a lot, some 3 weeks ago it was spotted as 4455, so I hope it's the same one. Maybe someone can conform it's serial?

Additional:
Tu154M, Russian Gvmt, RA 85846
F5A, Hellenic AF, 13371

TIA.

Mike.

Thanks m8. I'll be back on 12th september.

Additional log, 5th september:
C130H, Hellenic AF, 751 (90% sure)

For those who are wondering, I hope to fill in the gaps when I get home. Have to check the serials from photo's, using tricks in photoshop. Most pics were taken from a big distance. Monday I'll be on the Amnissos-beach again to spot any ' action' at Heraklion.

Grt, Mike.

Regarding the C-27J Spartan on the 2nd of September, was this the late afternoon visitor?

Hey Wijgert, I stayed in a village near Hersonissos, called Koutouloufari. We stayed in appertments called Marni Village. We visited the Amnissos-beach near Heraklion 2 times. The second time, 8th of September, I did see a guy who was also taking pictures of the civil aircraft landing at Heraklion. Maybe that was you?

About the C27J, indeed it was a late afternoon visitor.

Kalimera Mike,

What a coincidence that you stayed in Koutouloufari, we where in Piskopiano. This is the adjacent sister village. No I'm not the guy you have seen on Amnissos-beach, actualy I did not take any pictures of aircraft at all, during my stay. Had my bins with me sometimes. There is also a nice beach between Kato Gouves and Amnissos, you are out of sight of the airfield and aircraft are abit higher.
The time I was there nothing military was noted on approach.

See you have missed the two Indian Hawks on delivery true Heraklion? That's a pitty... I only seen them during take-off, while they climed out overhead the city. The same day two have been seen on Malta, so I expect them to be the same.

What is the reason you did not visit Kasteli? This is only about 15km to the south of Hersonissos. Several times I have seen F-16's overhead Hersonissos and Malia during the day, some evenings also nightflying activity aswell.

Many thanks for the serial of the C-27J, noted this one while lying on a sunbed at a beach in Hersonissos. To far away to pull an ID of.

I have the intention to post a small log later on.

Adios,
Wijgert
