Seems that this model is positioned as a backup for 1Ds users looking at the 21MP sensor. The fewer AF points, slower fps and fullframe sensor compared to the 1Dmk2/3 series also makes it less attractive for spotting purposes. All relative of course as this is still a very fine piece of equipment!

It makes me quite sad it comes with a film-mode. Which semi-pro-user will be using this?? Futhermore, great body!

I don't know if it's true, but I've read somewhere Canon is introducing more camera('s) at Photokina, the 3D and/or 7D. Since the 1D comes also in a version for sports-photographers (and spotters), the 1D(w/o s), it might just be sort of high speed 5D. Or is this a stupid idea (came up with it myself (A))?

Hi Bramos,

Is it just me who doesn't understand what you are trying to say ??

The 5D is a prosumer version of de 1Ds. The 1D is a different camera, mostly used for sports and press. Right now Canon already has SIX different camera series and THREE different sensor formats. So I don't really see any room for a new 3 / 7 series.

I understand your point about filming with a photo camera. On the other hand, it's probably just a minor update of the software to introduce this gadget. And I wouldn't be surprised if Canon and Nikon spied on eachoter, since they both introduced this gadget in the past few weeks.

Just compare: Why did they ever introduce a camera and a radio into a cellphone ? Now many people are happy with it....

Cheers,
Iwan

PS: Where did you pick up on the rumour of the 3d and 7D ?????

I've only heard rumours on the 3D/7D, which was supposed to be the successor to the 5D (Mk.I). However, after the introduction of the 5D Mk.II, I still came across the 3D/7D. That's the basis for my rumour :P. I think it was on the messageboard/forum of http://www.eosdigitaal.nl, a website completely about Canon-photography :).

I know about the D90, and to be honest: it wouldn't surprise me either. It wouldn't surprise me as well as it leaks that these manufacturers already have got their gadgets sorted out for the 500D, 60D and other models that are to be introduced. But that's just another speculation ;).

About the camera and radio in the cellphone: I hate them. The camera is just, to be polite, not meeting my demands, and the radio is also quite rubbish. Radio is anyway, all these ads are driving me crazy. But the so-called sound these things are producing: just horrible (as with most MP3-players/iPods/etc.).
