(Civil) Us Airways callsign change

Post by joost »

Hello,

Not sure how long it is going on but this morning it got my attention.
some US Airways flights on SBS-1 were transmitting a AWExxx as Mode-s callsign.

Not long thereafter "Cactus xxx" requested oceanic clearance on 123.950
Both AWE and Cactus are related to America West which I believed merged recently with US Airways.

Appearently they adopted Cactus as their new Callsign.
I thought it might be handy to know.

Grtz

Correct, they've been flying as 'Cactus' (AWE798/799) to Schiphol for a week and a half approx.
